Ranji Trophy: Tamil Nadu rues missed chances as Baroda escapes to safety on opening day
It was a day of glass-half-empty for Tamil Nadu after it allowed Baroda to escape to safety from having its back to the wall in the morning. Though the pitch became easier to bat on after the first 90 minutes, TN will rue a couple of missed opportunities on the field.
The chances came in the last two sessions when wicketkeeper S.R. Athish fumbled a stumping to give Atit Sheth a reprieve when he was on 14. Earlier, Seth also got lucky when a sharp chance flew past Andre Siddarth at short-leg.
“We should have taken a few more wickets. The pitch looks good for batting, but those small things could have been better,” said TN head coach M. Senthilnathan.

Late in the day, the well-set Surkit Pandey was caught at short-leg off Sai Kishore, but the decision was overturned as the bowler had overstepped, something the coach was not pleased with.
“Overall, I would still say we bowled well, kept the pressure on them and did not gift runs. If we can come tomorrow morning and take early wickets with the new ball, we can restrict them to below 300,” added the TN head coach.
Senthilnathan also praised off-spinner J. Hemchudeshan, who is playing only in his second First-Class match. “Yes, there was some assistance in the morning, but he bowled really well, in the right areas, getting batters caught in front and stumped.”
