Ranji Trophy 2025-26: Jaiswal’s 156 lights up final day in tame draw; Rajasthan claims first innings lead against Mumbai
Yashasvi Jaiswal took up from where he left off in the first innings, and went on to score a gritty 156 (174b, 18×4, 1×6) in the second essay, but Mumbai had to be content with a solitary point as its Group D fixture against Rajasthan ended in a draw.
It was a batting masterclass by Jaiswal, who made the most of the lifeless Sawai Mansingh Stadium surface. The Mumbai opener hit Rajasthan bowlers all over the park.
With a large number of fans turning up on Tuesday, Jaiswal and Musheer Khan (63, 115b, 9×4) added 149 runs for the opening partnership despite Rajasthan bowlers trying their best to break the momentum.
While Jaiswal backed his natural game and dealt in boundaries, a cautious Musheer took his time to build his innings and eventually brought up his fifty. The partnership could have extended further, but seamer Aniket Choudhary drew first blood as Musheer was caught behind by Kunal Singh Rathore.
Ranji Trophy Round 3, Day 4 – As it happened
However, Jaiswal remained unperturbed as he entertained the crowd with a flurry of boundaries and made sure that there were no slip-ups. As Ajinkya Rahane handled the Rajasthan fast bowlers at ease, it seemed that another big partnership was in the offing. But then, he failed to convert the start as he mistimed a Kookna Ajay Singh delivery and was stumped by Rathore.
As a dejected Rahane walked back towards the dressing room, the onus was on Yashasvi to avoid further dents. The youngster kept his cool, cut out the noise and ensured that he brought up a fine 150 before falling to Kookna.
With a draw looming large, the teams mutually agreed to call off the day’s play shortly before tea, with Mumbai ending at 269 for 3. Rajasthan’s decision to delay its declaration drew flak, but captain Mahipal Lomror said that with the surface offering nothing to the bowlers, they did not want to bat again in the fourth innings.
