Ranji Trophy 2025-26: Jagadeesan attributes Tamil Nadu collapse against Jharkhand to poor shot selection
Tamil Nadu skipper N. Jagadeesan attributed his team’s batting collapse against Jharkhand in the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 Group A match on Thursday to the poor shot selection and the approach taken by the batters.
“I think it’s only the batters to blame for the kind of shot selection that we made, and also the approach that we had towards the game. I don’t think they bowled extraordinarily, but it was just our fault. There was slight seam movement, and I felt we could have definitely negotiated them a lot better,” he said after the day’s play.
Tamil Nadu was at 18 for five at stumps on second day, in response to Jharkhand’s massive first-innings total of 419.
The 29-year-old emphasised the importance of being smart while batting.
“I think it’s about having more smartness when we bat, because the wicket was a bit slow and the bowlers were also bowling really slow. And I just felt that we were looking for runs a bit more. So, probably, if we had just taken our time to settle in and get used to the pace, things could have been different. To sum it up, it’s a session lost for us,” he said.
Jagadeesan was optimistic about an improved collective batting performance in the second innings and the season ahead.
