Pakistan to boycott T20 World Cup 2026 match vs India: Ashwin, Pietersen, Azad react

Pakistan on Sunday announced that it will boycott its T20 World Cup 2026 group-stage match against India, scheduled to take place on February 15 in Colombo.

The decision comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions, with South Asian neighbour Bangladesh withdrawing from the T20 World Cup citing security concerns over travelling to India.

Pakistan’s T20 World Cup captain, Salman Ali Agha, was asked about the decision on Sunday after the host completed a 3-0 whitewash against Australia.

“This is not our decision. This is a decision by our board, and we will stick with it,” Agha said.

Former cricketers including Kevin Pietersen, Ravichandran Ashwin and Kirti Azad reacted to the announcement by the Pakistan government, made just days before the ICC showpiece begins on February 7.
