Netherlands secures historic qualification for Women’s T20 World Cup; Bangladesh also makes the cut
The Netherlands secured its maiden ICC Women’s T20 World Cup on Wednesday after beating the USA by 21 runs via DLS Method in the Global Qualifiers, taking place in Kirtipur, Nepal.
Chasing 130, the Dutch were cruising at 90 for two in 12 overs when a rain interruption prevented further play; they were eventually declared winners, having surpassed the par score required at that stage.
The Netherlands was unbeaten in the group stage, registering wins over Zimbabwe, Scotland, Nepal, and Thailand to end as table-topper in Group B. It then beat the USA in its first Super Six match to confirm qualification with two matches still to play, against Ireland and Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh also secured its berth for this year’s T20 World Cup after beating Thailand by 39 runs in its Super Six opener.
Bangladesh had topped Group A after registering consecutive wins against the USA, Papua New Guinea, Namibia and Ireland. It has also secured its T20 World Cup qualification with two matches remaining, against Scotland and the Netherlands.
With the Netherlands and Bangladesh qualifying for the 12-team tournament later this year, 10 teams have secured their spots.
Scotland, Ireland, the USA and Thailand will fight it out for the last two spots during the ongoing Global Qualifiers.
The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 begins on June 12 in England and Wales.
England, Australia, India, New Zealand, South Africa, West Indies, Pakistan and Sri Lanka had qualified automatically for the global event.
