Mitchell Starc becomes first Australian pacer to pick 10-wicket haul in Ashes Test in 34 years

Mitchell Starc became the first Australian pace bowler to finish with a 10-wicket match haul in an Ashes Test in 34 years during the first match against England in Perth on Saturday.

Starc finished with the figures of 10 for 113, including a seven-fer in first innings. Craig McDermott was the last Aussie quick to finish with a match haul of over 10 wickets in an Ashes Test — 11 for 157 in February 2021, which also came at the same venue.

In the second innings, Starc claimed the wickets of Zak Crawley, Joe Root, and Ben Stokes as Australia bowled out England for 164 runs.

This is only the third time that the left-arm pacer has finished with a match haul of more than 10 wickets: his first, and his best figures, came against Sri Lanka in Galle — 11 for 94 in 2016. His next only came against Sri Lanka in 2019 — 10 for 100 in Canberra.
