Indianapolis Colts sign Sauce Gardner in surprise trade
The Indianapolis Colts are set to bolster their playoff hopes by acquiring cornerback Sauce Gardner from the New York Jets.
The 7-2 Colts will send two first-round picks to the Jets, as well as WR Adonai Mitchell, in return for the fourth pick in the 2022 NFL draft.
The 25-year-old was the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in his first season and became the first cornerback since the NFL-AFL merger in 1970 to be named first-team All-Pro in each of his first two years.
Gardner had 20 tackles and six pass defenses in seven games for the Jets this season.
He signed a four-year deal worth a reported $120m this offseason but has been sacrificed as the Jets, who are 1-7, face up to another rebuild.
