IOA to give cash rewards to AYG medal winners, 4th place finishers, coaches

Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on Monday announced that the gold, silver, and bronze medal winners at the recent Youth Asian Games in Bahrain will be given cash rewards of Rs 5 lakh, 3 lakh, and 2 lakh, respectively, in recognition of their achievements.

The fourth place finishers will also receive Rs 50,000 each, while both the gold winning men’s and women’s kabaddi teams will get Rs 10 lakh each.

Coaches of medal-winning athletes will also get Rs 1 lakh each.

India had finished sixth in the final standings in the October 23-31 Games with 48 medals (13 gold, 18 silver, 17 bronze). Boxing had contributed four gold, while beach wrestling and kabaddi yielded three and two yellow metals.

The IOA said the achievement of the athletes reflects the growing strength and depth of the country’s youth sporting ecosystem.

“The IOA recognizes that such performances are the result of sustained effort, rigorous training, and invaluable guidance provided by coaches and support staff. In acknowledgment of these commendable accomplishments, the IOA has decided to felicitate all medal winners, coaches, and athletes who secured fourth positions at a special ceremony to be held shortly,” the apex body said in a release.

IOA chief PT Usha said her organisation takes immense pride in the exemplary performance of the young athletes at the third Asian Youth Games.

“Their achievements reflect the future of Indian sport and the potential that lies within our youth. The IOA remains fully committed to providing every possible support to nurture and develop this emerging talent,” she said.

The IOA also acknowledged the efforts of the coaches, National Sports Federations, and support teams who have played a role in this success.

Malkeet, Hussain win in opening round of IBSF World Snooker Championships

India’s Malkeet Singh and Hussain Khan started their campaigns on a winning note on the opening day of the IBSF World Snooker Championships here on Monday.

Malkeet, a former national champion in the shorter format of snooker (6-red), outplayed local pro Essa Al Qubaisi of Qatar 4-0 in the opening round of the first stage of the men’s competition.

Although the match was bereft of big breaks, Malkeet kept Essa on a tight leash, and made the most of the chances that came his way en route to a lopsided victory.

Later in the day, Hussain scored a runaway 4-0 win over Shivan Mohammedali of Sweden. The highlight of the promising Indian’s win was a fine break of 61 in the fourth frame.

Paras Gupta and Dhvaj Haria are the other two Indians in the fray in the first stage.

While Gupta got a bye in the first round, Haria was slated to take on Qatar’s Badr Abdulla Sharshani later in the evening.

Aditi finishes T-27 as Yamashita wins title in Maybank

India’s Aditi Ashok carded a round of even par 72 on the final day to finish T-27 at the Maybank Championship here.

With three birdies and three bogeys, Aditi, who was placed T-12 after the third round, finished the week with a four-day score of 10 under par with rounds of 70-70-66-72.

Miyu Yamashita, with seven-under 65, got into the play-off with Hye Jin Choi (73) and Hannah Green (68). They were all tied at 18-under for a three-way play-off.

Hye Jin Choi, who had led the field since the first round, struggled on the fourth day as she carded one-over 73, while Hannah Green, who began the day five strokes behind the leader, carded four-under 68 to catch up with her.

With the 18th hole set as the first play-off hole, Yamashita of Japan secured the title after making a birdie, while Hannah Green and Hye Jin Choi were only able to make par. This marks Choi’s 29th career top 10 finish without a title.

The five players tied for fourth position include world number one Jeeno Thitikul, Sei Young Kim, Aie Iwai, A Lim Kim, and Yan Liu.

IDCA inaugurates 9th T20 National Cricket Championship for Deaf

The Indian Deaf Cricket Association (IDCA) on Monday inaugurated the ninth edition of the T20 National Cricket Championship for Deaf that will be held in New Delhi from November 3 to 9 and feature 20 teams.

The opening ceremony of the championship was attended by Delhi minister Pravesh Sahib Singh Verma, among others.

The week-long championship, organised under the patronage of Cyrus Poonawalla Group, will run from November 3-9, bringing together some of the most talented hearing-impaired cricketers from across India.

This year’s tournament features 20 teams — Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Haryana, Telangana, Mumbai, Maharashtra, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Punjab, Odisha, Delhi, and Bengal.

The matches will be hosted across four venues in Chhawla — Essex Farms Cricket Club and Academy, Haryana Cricket Academy, Arihant Cricket Ground, and Arihant Mount Cricket Club — ensuring simultaneous matches.

The fixture includes 40 league matches, followed by quarterfinals on November 8, semifinals, and the final on November 9.

Speaking about the championship, Sumit Jain, President, IDCA, said, “The 9th T20 National Cricket Championship for Deaf is not just a tournament — it’s a movement celebrating the spirit, resilience, and talent of our hearing-impaired athletes.”

World Cup triumph a testament to women’s empowerment in India: Mandaviya

Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Monday lauded the Indian women’s cricket team for its historic ICC World Cup title triumph, saying the feat is a testament to women’s empowerment in the country.

India on Sunday defeated South Africa by 52 runs in the final in Navi Mumbai to lift its maiden Women’s World Cup title.

“I would like to congratulate the Indian women’s cricket team. The victory is a respect towards women’s empowerment of the country. It’s a victory of our women power,” Mandaviya said during the announcement of preparations for 100 years celebrations of Indian hockey here.

Rithvik Sanjeevi clinches gold at at Mangalore India International Challenge 2025

Tamil Nadu’s Rithvik Sanjeevi won the men’s singles title at the Mangalore India International Challenge 2025 Badminton tournament held in Mangaluru on Sunday.

Ranked 60th globally, 22-year-old Rithvik battled fiercely to claim victory in an intense final against compatriot Rounak Chouhan (14-21, 21-19, 21-19).

This triumph marks the first title this season for Rithvik, who trains at the Hatsun Badminton Academy in the state.
