IND vs SA Test: Three arrested for cricket betting at Eden Gardens
Officers of the Detective Department (DD) and Anti-Rowdy Squad (ARS) wings of the Kolkata Police on Sunday arrested three men for being involved in cricket-betting from the F1 Block of the Eden Gardens during the third day of the first Test match between India and South Africa.
Acting on a tip-off from Saturday, the police chased down three individuals who had been engaged in the said illegal activity on mobile apps br365, R777, and 1xBook, among others, during the game. A few others, however, have managed to escape.
The ones detained—Altaf Khan (26 years old), Ankush Raj (22), and Patel Pinkal Kumar (39)—are not from West Bengal. Altaf comes from Yavatmal in Maharashtra, while Ankush is from Arrah in Bihar. Pinkal Kumar, the oldest of the group, hails from Unjha in Gujarat.

It has been hence learned that the trio have been involved in running betting circles across the country.
“All three detained persons were thoroughly checked. Some incriminating transactions could be found on their mobile phones. The phones were seized after screenshots of such transactions were obtained… Further investigation is underway,” a senior officer of the Kolkata Police said.
A case was subsequently registered at the Maidan Police Station for offences under Sections 61(2)/318(4) of the BNS read with Sections 2 and 4 of the Gambling and Prize Competition Act.
