IND vs SA: KL Rahul completes 4000 runs in Test cricket

India opener K.L. Rahul crossed 4000 Test runs during the first game against South Africa at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday.

The right-hander became the 18th Indian to reach the mark, punching a boundary off Marco Jansen early on day two. Rahul, 33, is playing his 66th Test and now has 11 centuries and 20 fifties.

His highest Test score remains 199 against England in Chennai in 2016.

Rahul has also been central to India’s recent revival in the Test arena. He was a driving force in the come-from-behind 2-2 result against England, producing 532 runs across the series with a control percentage near 89 that underlined how commandingly he batted. That stretch of form remains one of the clearest markers of his importance to India’s top order.
