IND vs SA, 1st ODI: Why is Temba Bavuma not playing?
South Africa captain Temba Bavuma was rested for the first One-Day International against India at the JSCA Cricket Stadium in Ranchi on Sunday.
In his absence, Aiden Markram will lead the side in the series opener. South Africa won the toss and opted to bowl. The side also rested spinner Keshav Maharaj, who had featured in both Test matches.
Bavuma led the Proteas to a 2-0 Test series win last week, the nation’s first win in India since 2000. Bavuma was also the captain when South Africa won the ICC World Test Championship in June 2025.
