IND U-19 vs AUS U-19, 1st Youth Test: Centurions Suryavanshi, Vedant put India in command against Australia

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s whirlwind century put India Under-19 firmly in control against Australia U-19 on the second day of the opening Youth Test at the Ian Healy Oval in Brisbane on Wednesday.

The 14-year-old Rajasthan Royals prodigy smashed a 78-ball hundred, guiding India to a commanding first-innings total of 428. By stumps, Australia was 8 for 1, with opener Alex Lee Young dismissed for a duck by pacer Deepesh Devendran.

Suryavanshi was dominant against both pace and spin — driving crisply through extra cover against the quicks and employing the slog sweep and cut against the spinners. He reached three figures with a stylish cover drive off left-arm spinner Aryan Sharma.

Earlier, he added 152 runs for the third wicket with Vedant Trivedi, blending remarkable maturity with fearless strokeplay. His blistering knock of 113 off 86 deliveries included nine fours and eight sixes, making him only the second player after Brendon McCullum to score two Youth Test centuries in under 100 balls.

After his dismissal, Trivedi sustained the momentum, stitching together important partnerships with Abhigyan Kundu and Rahul Kumar to keep India on top.
