Former South Africa batter Rassie van der Dussen announces international retirement
Former South Africa batter Rassie van der Dussen has announced his retirement from international cricket at the age of 37.
Van der Dussen — who played primarily as a top-order batter — represented the Proteas in all three formats, scoring nearly 5000 runs in 146 appearances. He also represented South Africa at the 2019 and 2023 ODI World Cups, as well as the 2021 T20 World Cup.
His last international appearance came in a T20I against Australia in August 2025.
His best performances came in the 50-over format, where he played 71 matches and scored 2657 runs at an average of 50.13.
“It is with a proud heart and a profound sense of gratitude that I announce my retirement from international cricket,” van der Dussen said in a statement on social media.
“To wear the Proteas jersey is a feat that demands a level of resilience and dedication that both tests, and rewards you in the most incredible way. To have played for my country has been the greatest honour of my life.
In the same statement, the 37-year-old also confirmed that he would continue to turn out for his domestic side, Lions, while also moving into coaching.
