Forever Young Gives Japan a Breeders’ Cup Classic Win
Globetrotting superstar Forever Young defeated an ultra-competitive field to capture the $7 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) Nov. 1 at Del Mar.
The 4-year-old son of Real Steel became the first Japanese-bred and -trained winner of the Classic.
Third in last year’s Classic and Kentucky Derby (G1), Forever Young would not be denied in his third United States start, taking the lead turning for home and holding on for a thrilling victory over last year’s winner Sierra Leone and Fierceness .
Ridden by Ryusei Sakai, Forever Young ran the 1 1/4 miles in 2:00.19 and paid $9 to win.
Forever Young is trained by Yoshito Yahagi and owned by Susumu Fujita.
