Ethical Diamond Sets Course Record in BC Turf Win
Ethical Diamond , a horse whose reputation was built jumping hurdles, rallied down the stretch to victory en route to a course record when taking the Nov. 1 $5 million Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1T) at Del Mar.
The son of Awtaad is owned by HOS Syndicate and trained by William Mullins.
Silawai (IRE) set the pace through the opening mile with fractional times of :23.22, :47.53, 1:11.99, and 1:37.04. Favored Minnie Hauk took the lead at the top of the stretch, but Ethical Diamond, under jockey Dylan Browne McMonagle, blazed down the center of the course for the win at 25-1 odds.
Two-time Breeders’ Cup Turf winnerRebel’s Romance finished second and El Cordobes third.
Ethical Diamond ran the 1 1/2 miles in a final time of 2:25.45 and won by a margin of 1 1/4 lengths. He paid $57.40 for a $2 win ticket.
