ENG vs WI, T20 World Cup 2026: Rutherford, spinners help West Indies trump England

Sherfane Rutherford’s middle-over salvo and a collective bowling effort from the spinners helped West Indies beat England by 30 runs in a T20 World Cup 2026 encounter at the Wankede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Roston Chase, Gudakesh Motie and Akeal Hosein distributed six wickets among themselves to drag England back after the top order had given the team a great start in the PowerPlay.

Sam Curran was forced to play anchor with wickets tumbling around him, but couldn’t find the final burst to chase down the target.

In the first innings, Sherfane Rutherford’s unbeaten 76 off 42 balls allowed West Indies to recover from a tepid start and post 196 on the board.

He combined for 51 runs with Rovman Powell for the fifth wicket, before putting another 61 with Jason Holder for the sixth wicket. Holder’s 33 off 17 also came in handy in giving the West Indies the final flourish.

Getting close to 200 was a long shot after the West Indies had lost two wickets in the first seven balls. Adil Rashid further spun a web around West Indies with his two for 16 from four overs.

But West Indies was able to fight back and add 117 runs from its last 10 overs courtesy of Rutherford’s effort.
