Sri Lanka beats West Indies by 37 runs to level T20I series
Sri Lanka levelled the three-match T20I series against West Indies with a commanding 37-run victory at Sabina Park in Kingston on Saturday, thanks to half-centuries from Kamil Mishara and Dasun Shanaka, followed by a disciplined bowling display led by Wanindu Hasaranga and Dushmantha Chameera.
Asked to bat, Sri Lanka posted a competitive 194 for 6, with Mishara remaining unbeaten on 61 off 40 balls and Shanaka blasting 58 off just 24 deliveries. The pair added 101 runs for the fourth wicket to put Sri Lanka in a strong position.
Shamar Joseph was the pick of West Indies bowlers with figures of 3 for 32, including a pinpoint yorker that dismissed Dunith Wellalage off the final ball of the innings.
West Indies never recovered from a poor start to its chase, slipping to 9 for 2 inside the opening overs. Shimron Hetmyer (36 off 26) and Rovman Powell (43 off 26) revived hopes with an 82-run partnership, but Sri Lanka wrested back control in the 10th over.
Hetmyer was run out attempting a tight single before Powell, the hero of West Indies’ win in the opening T20I, was caught at point off Maheesh Theekshana four balls later.
Hasaranga (3/38) then struck twice in consecutive deliveries, removing Sherfane Rutherford and Romario Shepherd to leave the hosts reeling at 108 for 6.
Chameera (3/9) cleaned up the lower order, dismissing Roston Chase in the 19th over as West Indies was restricted to 157.
The decider will be played on Sunday at Sabina Park. Sri Lanka had earlier won the rain-affected ODI series 1-0 after the final two matches were washed out.
