A birthday to remember: Maaya Rajeshwaran storms into J300 Bamberg semifinals
Maaya Rajeshwaran celebrates turning 17 with a semifinal berth at ITF J300 Bamberg
Maaya Rajeshwaran picked the perfect way to mark her 17th birthday at Bamberg on Friday, as she rallied from 1-4 down in the first set to beat home favourite Emily Victoria Eigelsbach 7-6(1) 6-4 and reach the semifinals of the J300 event.
The first set was tight. Eigelsbach, playing in front of a home crowd, moved ahead 4-1 and looked in control. Maaya clawed her way back, levelled, and took the tiebreak with authority, dropping just one point to close it out 7-6(1). The second set was more straightforward, with Maaya taking it 6-4 to seal the win.
It was also a repeat result. Maaya had beaten Eigelsbach in the quarterfinals of the J300 Cairo earlier this year, and she did it again here, with a mini comeback woven in.
