“I’ll Try to Come Out Strong” — Nishesh Basavareddy Ahead of his Roland Garros Main Draw Debut Against World No. 8 Taylor Fritz
Nishesh Basavareddy is about to walk onto one of the most storied courts in tennis. He spoke to Prateek Chachra from Indian Tennis Daily ahead of his Roland Garros Main Draw debut and a first round clash against World No. 8 Taylor Fritz.
Prateek: Hello Nishesh, lovely to meet you. I’m Prateek from Indian Tennis Daily. First off, congratulations on your Roland Garros debut. How do you feel?
Nishesh: I feel excited. This is one of the tournaments where qualifiers and main draws are different — different setup and everything. It’s been fun.
Prateek: How do you evaluate your game on clay? We’ve seen you a lot on hard court and you’re super good there — how would you say your game translates to clay?
Nishesh: I think it’s still developing, but this year it’s been better. I’m getting more used to the movement and the patterns that I want to play. We’ll see how this week goes.
Prateek: Your first round match is against Fritz. How are you preparing, and are you excited?
Nishesh: Yeah, I’m excited. Of course I’m the underdog so I’ll try to come out strong. I’ll do some homework and use what I can to my advantage.
Prateek: Last message to all the Indian fans rooting for you, especially the Indian Tennis Daily community?
Nishesh: Hopefully they can come out and support — I know there are a lot of Indians in Paris, so we’ll see.
Round 1 awaits tomorrow. Nishesh Basavareddy vs Taylor Fritz at Roland Garros — and the Indian diaspora in Paris will have every reason to make some noise.
