Casemiro backing Neymar to play major role for Brazil at World Cup
Casemiro says Neymar still has a major role to play for Brazil and believes there should be no debate over his quality.
The Manchester United midfielder admitted his frustration at the constant discussion around Neymar’s place, insisting the focus should instead be on his fitness.
“That topic is annoying,” Casemiro said. “Everyone talks about it, everyone asks about it and everyone answers, but it’s really annoying. Mostly me. I am sincerely a friend of Neymar.
“I’ve played with him since I was 12. And it’s always the same question, is Neymar going or not?”
‘He doesn’t have to prove anything’
Casemiro was clear in his evaluation of Neymar’s standing in the game, saying his ability is not up for debate.
“Neymar doesn’t have to prove anything to anyone,” he said.
He added that the only real concern is whether the forward can reach the required physical level, rather than anything to do with talent.
“In terms of talent, we don’t even have to talk about it, the player he is, the player he was, and what he can do with the ball.”
World Cup role depends on fitness
Casemiro suggested Neymar could still have a big impact at a major tournament, even if not used in every game.
He pointed to the importance of managing his minutes, saying the forward could still be a big player in shorter spells on the pitch.
“If you speak to him about the World Cup, I think he will want to go,” he said.
“Maybe he won’t play every game, but in certain moments, 20 or 30 minutes, he can be crucial.”
Ultimately, Casemiro believes the call will rest with Carlo Ancelotti, who he trusts to handle the situation.
“It’s for Ancelotti to decide,” he said.
“There is no better coach in the world, with more experience, to deal with something like this. Whatever decision he makes will be for the good of the group.”
