Tyson Fury has fondly called his first fight in more than 15 months a “circus” as the former unified heavyweight champion prepares to return against 6ft 6in Russian Arslanbek Makhmudov on Saturday.
The build-up has increasingly focused upon whether a win could lead to Fury finally facing Anthony Joshua, the only active British boxer who can match his profile – but the Mancunian is concentrating on his “big, intimidating” immediate opponent.
“He’s a scary-looking dude and I’ve got to be on my A game to beat him up,” Fury told Sky Sports, predicting he will “smash” Makhmudov “to pieces” if he is at his best.
“He’s a very dangerous man and he’s a massive monster. It’s been a while, I’ve missed it and now that I’m back I’ve brought all this action to the game.”

The fight is taking place at London’s 62,850-capacity Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Single and multiple seats were available in many areas of the venue two days before the fight.

When is Conor Benn vs Regis Prograis?
Conor Benn is fighting Regis Prograis at welterweight in the co-main event, making his third successive appearance at the home of Premier League team Tottenham.
Benn lost to fierce rival Chris Eubank Jr at the stadium in April 2025 but avenged the defeat by the same method in November.
Former WBA and WBC super lightweight champions Prograis, 37, has 30 wins – 24 by knockout – but suffered two of his three career defeats in his last three fights, losing to Devin Haney and Jack Catterall on points before a decision win over Joseph Diaz last august.

Tyson Fury, Arslanbek Makhmudov records
Of Makhmudov’s 23 wins, 17 have been within the first three rounds – although the 36-year-old suffered knockout defeats in 2023 and 2024 and was taken the distance in his most recent fight, beating former Commenwealth title challenger Dave Allen in Sheffield in October 2025.
“I’m anticipating the best Arslanbek Makhmudov there’s ever been,” suggested Fury. “Why wouldn’t he be?
“The game never changes, just the players. Boxing’s always been the same. It’s another day at the office for the Gypsy King.”
Fury won his first 35 fights, beating hall-of-famer Wladimir Klitschko in his 25th to win the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, IBO, and The Ring titles.
Now 37, he challenged Deontay Wilder for the WBC belt in a draw in 2018 and won and defended that title in successive bouts against the American in 2021 and 2022.
Successive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk in his last two bouts mean that Fury does not have a title.
