IPL 2026: Abhishek Sharma heavily fined for breaching Code of Conduct during KKR vs SRH
Sunrisers Hyderabad all-rounder Abhishek Sharma has been heavily fined for breaching the Indian Premier League Code of Conduct during the match against Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday.
Abhishek was fined 25 per cent of his match fees and has also accumulated one demerit point for his conduct at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday.
Why was Abhishek Sharma fined?
Abhishek was found guilty of violating Article 2.3 of the IPL Code of Conduct — a clause that deals with the use of obscene language or profanity.
“He admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.3 and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” the League said in a statement.
Abhishek scored a quickfire inning of 48 off just 21 balls, hitting four fours and as many sixes. However, he was later dismissed by Blessing Muzarabani, prompting him to express his frustration while walking back to the pavilion.
Though the exact cause for the fine has not been specified by the League, his exchange with Varun Chakaravarthy could have been one of the reasons influencing the sanction.
