Ashwin signs for MLC side San Francisco Unicorns

Former India international, R. Ashwin, signed for Major League Cricket side San Francisco Unicorns, the side announced on Saturday, making him the first capped Indian to feature in the American T20 league.

“The MLC has proven over recent seasons that it can put on a show, bringing in world-class players and offering significant exposure to US domestic cricket talent, and the opportunity to be a part of it with the San Francisco Unicorns was one I couldn’t pass up.

“Taking on the mantle as the first Indian-capped player to compete in Major League Cricket is a major responsibility that I fully embrace. My absolute focus is to help this franchise win games and push for its first Championship, while also putting on a spectacular brand of cricket for the Bay Area fans,” Ashwin said a statement.

Ashwin joins a formidable list of international players in the Unicorns which includes Haris Rauf, Finn Allen and Matthew Short.

The 39-year-old brings vast experience to the Unicorns’ camp, having played 333 T20s where he picked 317 wickets at an economy of just 7.11.
