Kolkata Knight Riders IPL 2026 Preview: Squad, Strengths, Weaknesses & Key Players

Kolkata Knight Riders is three-time IPL champion, but endured a difficult 2025 campaign, finishing eighth on the points table.

It made a strong statement at the December 2025 auction, however, splashing Rs. 25.20 crore on Cameron Green — a record fee for an overseas player in IPL history.

Here are three things in focus for KKR ahead of this season.

MIDDLE-OVERS STAGNATION

7.05

Lowest run rate in overs 7–14 in IPL 2025

The post-PowerPlay phase proved a major stumbling block for Kolkata Knight Riders last season. From overs seven to 14, the side scored at just 7.05 runs per over, comfortably the lowest in the league.

Spinners consistently tied down KKR’s middle order, which recorded the second-lowest strike rate against spin, behind Chennai Super Kings. The addition of Cameron Green is expected to address this imbalance, offering both stability and acceleration in the middle overs.

SPIN STRENGTH

7.63

Best spin economy rate in IPL 2025

If batting against spin was a weakness, bowling with it was a strength. In Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine, KKR arguably possess the most potent spin combination in the league.

The side’s spinners conceded just 7.63 runs per over, the best among all teams last season. The duo’s contrasting styles continue to give KKR control through the middle overs.

EXPLOSIVE ADDITION

196.32

Finn Allen’s T20 strike rate since 2025

New Zealand’s Finn Allen is set to take up the opening role for KKR this season. The wicketkeeper-batter has been in formidable form, highlighted by a 33-ball century against South Africa in the T20 World Cup semifinal at Eden Gardens.

Since 2025, Allen has struck at 196.32 in T20s, the second-best among openers with at least

1000 runs, behind Abhishek Sharma. His aggressive approach could help KKR set stronger platforms at the top.
