India Reaches Fourth T20 World Cup Final, A Record No Team Has Matched
India’s march into the final of the men’s T20 World Cup 2026 adds another layer to its long relationship with the tournament’s biggest stage.
This will be India’s fourth appearance in a T20 World Cup final, having previously reached the summit clash in 2007, 2014 and 2024. No other team has done so more often. Sri Lanka, Pakistan and England have each made three final appearances.
There is another distinction attached to this run. India has become the first defending champion in the men’s T20 World Cup to reach the final again in the following edition.
Historically, repeating a final appearance in this competition has been rare. Only Pakistan (2007 and 2009) and Sri Lanka (2012 and 2014) had previously managed to reach the title clash in consecutive editions.
The Sunday final against New Zealand also marks the 15th time India has qualfied for the summit clash in a men’s ICC tournament, the most by any team, going past Australia (14).
