T20 World Cup 2026: Harry Brook confident England can carry on winning momentum against host India

On the eve of England’s T20 World Cup semifinal against India at the Wankhede Stadium, Brook made it clear that perfection isn’t the pursuit. Progress is.
“The games that we have won have been nowhere near perfect, and we’ve still managed to get the wins convincingly in some of them and then tighten the other games,” the England captain said. “But it’s just the unity that we’ve had to be able to get across the line, the belief that everybody’s shown throughout the games and the calmness that we’ve had when the bowlers have stood at the top of the mark.”
England was unbeaten in the Super Eights, yet Brook believes it’s yet to hit top gear. “We are obviously going into the game very confident, we’re playing some good cricket, we haven’t quite played that perfect performance, and I feel like it’s just around the corner. Hopefully it’s tomorrow night, and we go out there, and we just play with freedom, play brave and yeah, look to take it to them as much as we can,” he said.
For touring sides, Indian conditions, especially spin, often pose a stern test. But this England group has enough subcontinental exposure to temper that. Brook brushed aside questions about the surface with characteristic candour.
“I don’t know, you’re asking the wrong man. I don’t know anything about the pitch. I’ll have a chat with Baz [Brendon McCullum] tonight and tomorrow before the game. We’ll look at the stats and decide what to do if we win the toss,” he said.
Earlier in the day, India’s bowling coach Morne Morkel acknowledged that dew could influence the contest. England, clinical but not flawless so far, will hope conditions and composure align when it matters most.
