Suryakumar Yadav on India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup match: Our flight for Colombo is booked
India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav on Thursday said the team’s flight to Colombo for its February 15 match against Pakistan has been booked.
“Our flight for Colombo is booked. We will go and then we’ll see,” Suryakumar said at the pre-tournament captain’s press conference.
Last week, the Pakistani government announced that its men’s team will not take the field against India on February 15, without offering an official reason.
The move was widely seen as a protest after Bangladesh was ousted from the tournament for refusing to travel to India for its T20 World Cup fixtures. Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif later confirmed the same.
India and Pakistan are placed in the same group and were scheduled to meet in Sri Lanka, which is co-hosting the tournament along with India.
Following Pakistan’s announcement, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a statement that “selective participation undermines the spirit and sanctity of the competitions”.
While the boycott by Pakistan could see it forfeit two points, it remains unclear if the PCB will be hit by further sanctions or bans.
The T20 World Cup begins on Saturday.
