Ranji Trophy: Massive win for us, says Chandigarh captain Manan Vohra after victory over Kerala
Chandigarh captain Manan Vohra termed his team’s win over last year’s runner-up Kerala as massive and complimented the efforts of the bowlers especially man-of-the-match Rohit Dhanda.
“To be honest we came here with hopes of getting at least one point given how poorly we performed this season. But to beat last year’s runner-up Kerala by an innings was massive which we never expected. This win will give us a lot of confidence for the future,” said Vohra.
Vohra said the wicket was a bit challenging and there was help for the bowlers on the first day which was exploited by Roht Dhanda. The captain credited his bowlers for sticking to the basics and also expressed surprised by some of the bad strokes played by Kerala batters.

“We also would have batted first on this wicket. There was some help for the bowlers on the first day. But I think Rohit bowled really well and we knew we were in the driver’s seat when we dismissed Kerala for 139 in the first innings. When we batted It was our plan to attack Kerala bowling.and we took some calculated risks too. Arjun played positively and our idea was to bat out Kerala as we didn’t want to bat in the fourth innings. I was also happy to score a century,’’
“I expected Kerala to put up a better show with the bat in the second innings. We got early breakthroughs in the morning which put them under pressure. When Vishnu Vinod counterattacked we knew it was only a matter of time for him to make a mistake. Some of their batters played bad strokes which made things easier for us,’’ concluded Vohra, who scored a century in the match.
“I just stuck to the basics and bowled a stump-to-stump line. I didn’t give many bad balls to the batters to hit and it worked. We planned Vishnu’s and Azhar’s dismissals. The idea was to bowl short balls at their bodies and they fell for the trap. V,’’ said Rohit Dhanda, who took seven wickets in the contest.
