Luke Wright to step down as England Men’s selector after T20 World Cup 2026


Luke Wright will step down from his position as England Men’s Selector following the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

Having served in the role since November 2022, Wright notified the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) that he will be moving on after more than three years of service.

The 40-year-old former cricketer cited the personal demands of the job—specifically the extensive travel—as the primary reason for his departure, noting that he wishes to spend more time with his young family.

He expressed immense pride in the talent recruited during his tenure and thanked Managing Director Rob Key for the opportunity. Key praised Wright’s “exceptional” contribution and judgement, stating that while he is sad to see him go, he expects Wright to return to a significant role in English cricket in the future.
