IND vs SA, 4th T20I: Match called off due to excessive fog
The fourth T20I of India and South Africa’s five-match T20I series at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow was abandoned due to excessive fog on Wednesday.
The match was initially scheduled to begin at 7:00PM, but was delayed multiple times after concerns over visibility in the fog.
The match officials conducted six inspections in hopes that the fog would clear, but called the match off after an inspection at 9:25.
The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Lucknow was hovering around 400, a level which is generally deemed as hazardous. The northern parts of India have been struggling in worsening air quality in recent weeks, an issue which has had far-reaching consequences in sport.
The lack of a result in Lucknow means India heads into the series finale in Ahmedabad with an unassailable 2-1 lead, though South Africa can still level the series with a victory.
