Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy: Tripura upsets Karnataka in Super Over
Tripura on Monday slayed domestic cricket giant Karnataka in a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy fixture at the Narendra Modi Stadium Ground ‘B’ in Ahmedabad.
Karnataka, having won the toss and elected to bat, scored 197 for six in 20 overs. Opener BR Sharath top scored with a 20-ball 44. In fact, his 57-run partnership with captain Mayank Agarwal in 34 balls ensured the side got off to a fiery start in the PowerPlay.
Tripura responded in style. First, Hanuma Vihari and Sridam Paul added 65 runs for the opening wicket. Even though Vijay Shankar faltered, skipper Manisankar Murasingh played hero once again, scoring a 35-ball 69.
The Tripura star almost carried his team over the line but succumbed to a run-out with two left to get off the last ball.
In the Super Over that followed, Paul scored 16 off the four balls he faced alongside Murasingh to take the team tally to 22.
Murasingh returned to bowl as Karnataka lost Smaran Ravichandran for a first-ball duck, following which Abhinav Manohar and Macneil Hadley Noronha could manage 18 off five balls.
