NZ vs WI: Daryl Mitchell likely to miss second ODI due to injury; Henry Nicholls called in as cover

Daryl Mitchell will not travel to Napier for the second ODI between New Zealand and West Indies as New Zealand confirmed that the batter will undergo a scan on his left groin on Monday.

Mitchell experienced discomfort in his thigh while scoring his seventh ODI century in the first match, which the host won by seven runs at Hagley Oval.

The results of the scan will determine the likelihood of his involvement in the remainder of the ODI series.

Canterbury batter Henry Nicholls has been called into the squad as cover and will assemble with the squad in Napier today.

Nicholls has been in hot form for Canterbury in the domestic Ford Trophy competition, leading the run-scoring charts with 306 runs at 76.50, including back-to-back centuries (117* and 138*) in rounds one and three against Otago and Auckland.

The second game of the three-match ODI series against West Indies will take place on Wednesday.
