ICC shortlists seven venues for T20 World Cup 2026, Ahmedabad likely to host final

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has shortlisted five venues in India – Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi – along with two destinations in Sri Lanka for next year’s T20 World Cup.

While an official announcement is expected soon, Sportstar understands that the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is likely to host the final, while Colombo will be kept a back-up option, in case Pakistan qualifies.

On the expected lines, Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium has missed out as a venue, following the stampede during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s victory celebrations in June, that killed eleven people.

During the just-concluded Women’s ODI World Cup, the Board of Control for Cricket in India had hosted games at smaller centres. However, sources indicated that the ICC top brass is looking to host all the T20 World Cup games in tier-1 and metro cities, keeping the security is mind for the 20-team tournament.

The ICC, it is learnt, has also informed the BCCI that Sri Lanka, if it qualifies, will play its semifinal at home.
