Just F Y I Sails Early to $4.5M at F-T November Sale
Multiple grade 1 winner Just F Y I (Hip 109) set the Fasig-Tipton sale pavilion abuzz early during the breeding stock portion of the Nov. 3 boutique November Sale, sailing to $4.5 million from premier Japan breeder Katsumi Yoshida’s Northern Farm.
Hill ‘n’ Dale at Xalapa consigned the 4-year-old daughter of 2018 Triple Crown winner Justify , who is believed to be in foal to multiple leading sire Into Mischief . She is carrying her first foal.
Just F Y I raced from 2-4, winning the Frizette Stakes (G1) and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) at 2 and going on at 3 to be runner-up in the Kentucky Oaks (G1) and Ashland Stakes (G1). She retired with a 3-3-0 record from eight career starts and earned $1,727,530. Just F Y I was bred and campaigned by George Krikorian and trained by Bill Mott.
“She was a 2-year-old champion,” said Shingo Hashimoto, who signed the ticket on behalf of Katsumi Yoshida’s Northern Farm. “She looked gorgeous, she has a very nice pedigree. She’s in foal to Into Mischief, so she basically clicked all the boxes that we wanted. We’re very excited.”
The 2023 champion 2-year-old filly will head to Northern Farm in Japan, where Hashimoto said she will be a good fit.
“She’s a very big mare with a very good frame,” Hashimoto said. “I think she will match many types of stallion in Japan.”
Hashimoto said he was not surprised by the $4.5 million it took to secure the mare.
“Of course, it would’ve been better if we could’ve bought her a little cheaper, but she’s one of those horses that’s going to be very expensive; it’s a very tough market,” he said. “So, I’m kind of relieved that we got one mare at least in the beginning, but I assume it’s going to be a very strong market.”
