Sophie Ecclestone injury update — Will the England spinner play in the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 semifinal?
Ahead of the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 semifinal against South Africa, England was optimistic that Sophie Ecclestone would be available for the important clash in Guwahati on Wednesday.
The left-arm spinner had injured her left shoulder during England’s final group game on Sunday against New Zealand. She tried to stop a boundary but landed awkwardly and was forced to leave the field for treatment.
Ecclestone returned to bowl against New Zealand in Visakhapatnam but could only complete four deliveries. She managed to pick a wicket before withdrawing herself from the attack.
Following an assessment, the team released a statement: “Results of an MRI scan on Sophie Ecclestone’s left shoulder indicate a minor injury to the joint next to her collar bone. She will continue to be assessed ahead of Wednesday’s ICC Women’s World Cup semifinal against South Africa.”
Ecclestone has so far taken 12 wicket in six matches in the tournament.
