Ranji Trophy 2025-26: Tamil Nadu’s batting slump continues on Day 3 against Jharkhand

Recovering from Thursday’s top-order collapse proved to be a fight against quicksand as Tamil Nadu crumbled for 93 and was asked to follow on by Jharkhand on the third day of the first-round Ranji Trophy Group A match at Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science ground on Friday.

Jharkhand secured a 326-run first-innings lead.

After the start of play was delayed by an hour, Shahrukh Khan (5) attempted a drive and was bowled through the gate by pacer Sahil Raj in the second over of the day—his off-stump was uprooted and broken.

Debutants R.S. Ambrish (28) and Hemchudeshan (14) held their ground for a 66-ball 38-run seventh-wicket stand before the former was cleaned up like Shahrukh. Ambrish went for a drive off left-arm pacer Vikash Singh as the ball sneaked in between his bat and pad to uproot his off-stump. Two balls later, Hemchudeshan was caught down the leg side off debutant pacer Jatin Kumar Pandey.

Debutant Jharkhand pacer Jatin Kumar Pandey accounted for three top-order wickets, including two in an over, against Tamil Nadu.

Jatin claimed his maiden First Class five-for after lunch as Gurjapneet Singh (12) was caught behind. The bowler went off the field immediately after the wicket, seemingly in discomfort, but returned to bowl in Tamil Nadu’s second innings. The last-wicket pair, D.T. Chandrasekar (9) and Sandeep Warrier (5 n.o.), dug in for a 108-ball 15-run union before Sahil trapped the former leg before wicket.

Following on, Tamil Nadu lost three wickets, two to debutant off-spinner Rishav Raj.

Ambrish (15), who was promoted to open as B. Sachin was down with chickenpox, was castled by Rishav. The ball kept a tad low while he went on the backfoot to cut.

N. Jagadeesan (21) drove and nicked to be caught behind off Sahil, and Pradosh Ranjan Paul (8) was caught by Virat Singh at slip off Rishav.
