New Zealand will hope to click in all departments, having looked a little wayward against Sri Lanka in the last
New Zealand will be next in line for a blazing Pakistan side to try its luck against, as it chases its first win at the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025.
The White Ferns will be well aware of Pakistan’s authoritative bowling line-up, which has repeatedly flexed its muscles. But with both sides suffering washouts in their previous clashes, the hunger to win will be palpable at the R. Premadasa Stadium here on Saturday.
The recent victim, England, succumbed to Pakistan’s pace attack before the spinners deepened the damage. Skipper Fatima Sana has ably led the charge, and with nine wickets in four matches, she will be one to watch.

In fact, in only her second match as Pakistan captain, she led her side to a thrilling Super Over victory against New Zealand, claiming a consolation win in an ODI series in 2023.
Veteran Bismah Maroof played a key role in levelling the scores, while Aliya Riaz and Sadia Iqbal were instrumental under pressure, showcasing Pakistan’s newfound ability to thrive in tense situations.
Meanwhile, New Zealand will hope to click in all departments, having looked a little wayward against Sri Lanka in the last match. Sophie Devine spearheaded the efforts but will look for more from her bowling contingent.
A shared concern for both camps, however, will be the lack of game time in the middle, especially with the bat — while Pakistan’s openers had close to seven overs before the heavens opened again, New Zealand was denied any chance to chase.
With the race to the knockouts tightening further, the outcome of this fixture could well define both campaigns, only if the rain decides to stay away.
