Rajat Patidar scores hundred as new Madhya Pradesh captain against Punjab in Ranji Trophy
Rajat Patidar marked his first Ranji Trophy appearance as Madhya Pradesh’s new all-format captain with a fine 160-ball 100, his 16th First-Class ton, against Punjab on Day 2 of the 2025-26 season at the Emerald Heights International School Ground in Indore on Thursday.
The 32-year-old right-hander, who replaced Shubham Sharma as skipper ahead of the new domestic season, continued his prolific run across formats.
Patidar, who led Royal Challengers Bengaluru to its maiden IPL title earlier this year and captained Central Zone to a Duleep Trophy triumph after a decade, looked in complete control throughout his innings. In reply to Punjab’s 232, Madhya Pradesh was reeling at 155 for four when Patidar joined hands with Venkatesh Iyer to steady the innings, the pair adding a crucial century stand to pull the host out of trouble.
Last Ranji season, Patidar was Madhya Pradesh’s second-highest run-getter with 529 runs at an average of 48.09, including one hundred and two fifties.
