ENG vs PAK, Women’s ODI World Cup 2025: England and Pakistan lean on the tried and tested ahead of Colombo clash
Pakistan has had a long week off after its 107-run drubbing at the hands of the mighty Australia, its third consecutive defeat at the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025.
For young Syeda Aroob Shah, who has been riding the bench so far, it has been a difficult sight, but she believes Pakistan has what it takes to bounce back.
‘The combination we’ve been playing with is our winning combination — if you see the Qualifier or the series against South Africa, we had the same combination. So, we trust our batters and are giving them a chance to come back,” she said ahead of the clash against England at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Playing all its games at the same venue hasn’t proved advantageous yet for Pakistan. But Syeda feels that her side cannot be written off just yet. “The tournament is still open. Some teams lose their first few matches and then come back strongly. We believe we can do the same.”

Meanwhile, England’s Alice Capsey admitted that Nat Sciver-Brunt’s insights will be key to tackling the Colombo conditions. “She’s spoken a lot about kind of what her method was, which was great,” the all-rounder said, referring to the England skipper’s ‘special innings’ against Sri Lanka — she scored her fifth World Cup century and 10th in ODIs overall.
“We are taking as much information as we can get, especially with another game here at Colombo. It’s great to have a clearer plan and be specific with what our plans are for each different bowler against Pakistan, especially.”
