Dresden Row Seeks Another Durham Cup Victory
After competitive graded stakes losses in his only two races of 2025, Dresden Row lines up as the 6-5 morning line favorite in the CA$150,000 Durham Cup (G3) Sept. 20 at Woodbine. He won the race in 2024.
The two-time graded stakes winner has come close in defeat, finishing third to Canadian Horse of the Year Patches O’Houlihan in the June 28 Highlander Stakes (G2T) on the turf before a runner-up effort to Swift Delivery last out in the Aug. 2 Seagram Cup (G3). In the Seagram, he crossed the wire 1 1/12-lengths ahead of his most formidable opponent on Saturday in the Mark Casse-trained Paramount Prince .
“Hopefully, everything falls into place for him, he gets a decent trip and a chance to show his stuff,” trainer Lorne Richards said. “This guy is the real deal. He’s as genuine as they come.”
Ryan Munger climbs back aboard Dresden Row. The 4-year-old son of Lord Nelson runs for Bloom Racing Stables and True North Stables, who purchased the colt for $70,000 at the 2023 Ocala Breeders’ Sale Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training.
The aforementioned Paramount Prince, winner of the 2023 King’s Plate, is another looking to regain his winning form for his connections. He is winless in four starts since capturing the Seagram Cup (G3) in July 2024.
Stretching out in trip to 1 1/16 miles is Chiefswood Stables’ Playmea Tune for trainer Josie Carroll. The Maclean’s Music gelding, a sprint stakes winner at Turfway Park, has raced exclusively in one-turn contests over his nine-race career.
