“It’s Going to Be a Tight Tie”: Swiss Captain Severin Lüthi on Facing India
Ahead of the Davis Cup World Group I Play-off tie against India, Swiss Captain Severin Lüthi shared his thoughts on the upcoming matches and the reasoning behind his player nominations.
Q: What are your thoughts before this tie against India?
Severin Lüthi: I think it’s going to be a tight tie. I think all matches are going to be very closely fought and tough to win. But, we had a good practice week. We’re confident, so we’re looking forward for the tie to start.
Q: You have nominated Jerome Kym and Marc-Andrea Hüsler for the singles games. Can you explain the decision?
Severin Lüthi: I think ranking-wise, they’re our number one and number two, so for me, it was pretty clear. Jerome, with his run at the US Open, I think it’s always something nice to have if a player recently had great results. So that was pretty clear for me. Marc-Andrea has played a lot of Davis Cup ties; he knows how to play in Davis Cup. He also had a good practice week, so it was a logical choice from my side.
