Venkatesh Prasad, Vinay Mruthyunjaya launch manifesto for KSCA 2025-28 elections

Former India fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad and former Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) treasurer Vinay Mruthyunjaya launched their manifesto for the KSCA 2025-28 elections, which will be held later this year.

The new KSCA committee will have to navigate through a burning issue – the sidelining of the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The iconic stadium has fallen out of favour after the tragic stampede that caused 11 deaths during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL title-winning celebrations.

The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium has since lost hosting rights for the Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20, and is likely to lose out on the 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup outings as well.

Prasad, who has served as the KSCA vice-president earlier, put the smeared landmark at the forefront of the election campaign. “We want to bring international matches back to the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. It is an iconic venue. We want to restore its lost glory,” Prasad said at a press conference here on Wednesday.

Mruthyunjaya was emphatic in his assertion that the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium will serve as the city’s premier cricket venue. “We will put our heart and soul into ensuring that matches are not shifted out of M. Chinnaswamy Stadium,” Mruthyunjaya said.

Mruthyunjaya added that if they come to power, the recommendations made in the Justice (Retd.) Michael D’Cunha Commission report will be carefully studied, and remedial measures will be put in place. “Crowd safety is of utmost importance to us,” Mruthyunjaya said.

Prasad and Mruthyunjaya did not commit to which positions they will seek in the upcoming elections.

The manifesto for women’s cricket was released by former India women’s team captain Shantha Rangaswamy.
