Stakes Winner A.P. Kid Euthanized
Donegal Racing’s stakes winner A.P. Kid was euthanized June 28 after suffering an irreparable fracture following a workout over the Oklahoma Turf Course in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
Daily Racing Form’s Mike Welsch first reported the news June 30, where trainer Todd Pletcher was quoted saying: A. P. Kid had just entered the stretch when he “took a funny step switching leads,” which caused the fatal injury.
A.P. Kid was out of the War Front mare Lady Mamba. He posted a 2 1/2 length maiden victory at Gulfstream Park in his second start March 22, and followed that with a dominating 6 1/4 length victory in the off-the-turf Pennine Ridge Stakes June 7 at Saratoga Race Course.
He was bred in Kentucky by Parks Investment Group and purchased by Donegal Racing at the 2023 Keeneland September Yearling Sale for $275,000.
