Maaya Rajeshwaran set to fly tonight to Paris for Roland-Garros after receiving visa
India junior No. 1 Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi is all set to fly tonight to Paris to participate in Roland-
Garros after receiving her visa on Thursday morning.
15-year-old Rajeshwaran Revathi is ranked No. 78 in the world junior rankings and will play the
qualifying draw in Paris. This will be the second appearance for Rajeshwaran Revathi in a Grand Slam
junior event after the 2024 Australian Open, where she also played the qualifying draw.
Indian Tennis Daily caught up with Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi on Wednesday evening in Mumbai
while she was waiting to receive her visa. Below are the excerpts of the quick chat:
Indian Tennis Daily: Hi Maaya. Thanks for talking to ITD. Can you tell us what you’re currently up to
and what’s your schedule for the next few weeks?
Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi: I’m trying to get into the French Open. So I am in Mumbai for the visa
and I am still waiting for my visa. As soon as I get it, I’ll be flying to France. And then I’ve got a few
junior tournaments, including Wimbledon in July. So, I’m packed with junior tournaments for now.
Indian Tennis Daily: Your last tournament was at the end of April. Have you been missing the
competitive action during this time?
Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi: Actually yes, I haven’t competed for a while, maybe four to five weeks.
So I’m really excited to go to France because I want to get in that competitive environment again.
Indian Tennis Daily: What are your expectations and ambitions from the upcoming junior Grand
Slams?
Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi: I actually don’t have any expectations right now, but I definitely
expect myself to do well. Because I’ve been doing well recently, and I want that hype to be there. I
want to do well, to qualify in the first place, because I’m in the qualifying event. (0:46) I want to
qualify in the first place, and then maybe get to the quarters or semis. Because my goal, my short-
term goal is to win a junior Grand Slam in the next one or two years. I don’t have too many
opportunities, so it’s probably four or five slams. So I think I have to do better in those.
The girls singles qualifying draw kicks off in Thursday on Paris and here’s wishing Maaya
Rajeshwaran Revathi all the best for her French Open debut.
