Rohit Sharma retires from Test cricket: Hitman’s red-ball numbers over the years
India captain Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket on Wednesday
The 38-year-old ended his Test career with 4,301 runs from 67 matches at an average of 40.57. Rohit made his Test debut in 2013 against West Indies at Eden Gardens, scoring a century in his first innings. Initially a middle-order batter, he struggled for consistency but found success in 2019 after transitioning to an opener.

Rohit enjoyed a prolific 2021, scoring 906 runs at an average of 47.68. However, his form declined in 2024, averaging just 24.76 for the year.
Rohit’s final match was the fourth Test against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 series, which India lost. Rohit was dropped for the fifth match of the series as India conceded the series 1-3.
The Mumbai batter’s retirement comes ahead of India’s five-match Test series against in England starting in June.
