“I Kept My Body in Check and Did My Best to Stay in Prime Condition” – Kriish Tyagi Reflects on Twin Crown in Kuala Lumpur
Fresh off a triumphant week at the ITF J200 Kuala Lumpur, the promising Kriish Tyagi sat down to share insights into his gruelling yet rewarding run that saw him clinch both the singles and doubles titles. Battling intense weather conditions and a packed match schedule, the 17-year-old showcased resilience, tactical maturity, and physical endurance en route to his seventh ITF Juniors singles crown.
In an exclusive interview, Tyagi opens up about handling pressure, his thrilling comeback against Cruz Hewitt (son of legend Lleyton Hewitt) in the singles final, and the growing support that fuels his rise on the junior circuit.
Q) You won both the singles and doubles titles this week. How challenging was it physically?
Tyagi – The weather conditions were very challenging. But I played this tournament in last April as well, so I knew what to expect. Between five singles and four doubles matches, there was a lot of load. But I kept my body in check and did my best to stay in prime condition. I am happy to have exceeded my performance from last year with this double crown.
Q) Thoughts on the singles final against Cruz Hewitt, who’s been doing well in the pros lately
Tyagi – It felt great to get the singles win, especially after the doubles win. Cruz Hewitt was a tough opponent, especially when I was 0-3 down in the 1st set. I am proud I was able to push myself and turn it around. I carried the momentum in the 2nd set. I handled the pressure well and the crowd definitely helped to keep me motivated throughout the match.
