2025 Australian Oaks Runner Preview:

1. Leica Lucy: Leica Lucy is a star filly from NZ who has the 2400m run under the belt, that being the NZ Oaks. Yes, just a win on the eye, but she was used up to hold a forward spot, so I think that took something away from her finale. She’s a beauty and now has the Waller polish.

2. Treasurethe Moment: Treasurethe Moment picks herself. Not sure she was 100% happy on the wet track in the Vinery last Tuesday but class got her home and she was dominant in the run to the line. Firmer footing, bigger track and 2400m, she’s clearly the one to beat. Well found, but for good reason. She is a star.

3. Dubai Goldrush: Is the price gap between her and Leica Lucy too big? There was only 0.3L between them in the NZ Oaks and Mark Zahra is a gun rider in races at 2000m+. Trip is no issue and IMO, purely looking at those two, the gap is too big so in that regard, she’s overs.

4. Verona Rose: Good finale in the Adrian Knox last Saturday but just not sure what upside she has left and she will need to improve big time. She looks unders IMO.

5. Belle Detelle: Big training effort from Waller to get her to win the Adrian Knox after being several weeks between runs. This does seem the logical step but Waller on the seven day back isn’t the norm and not sure she has the quality to measure up.

6. Sun N Sand: She wasn’t too bad I thought in the Adrian Knox, which followed an eye catching effort in the Kembla Grange Classic. She’s not up to these though IMO.

7. You Wahng: Had her chance in the Adrian Knox but perhaps she was ridden too close? Maybe ridden more cold, she’ll be more effective late.

8. Miss Alexis: Scratched

9. Matrimonial: She does not deserve to be the rank outsider. Strong win over 2000m at Ballarat two back before going to the same track/distance when ridden stone cold and was a real eye catcher late. 2400m is fine…why is she $151+?

10. Ella Hazel: Safely held in the Vinery Stud and suspect that will be the case once again.

2025 Australian Oaks Speed Map

Think the tempo will be quite genuine here. Estriella looks like she’ll be ridden with intent to land on speed, but will have pressure courtesy of Golden Boom and Insurrection, who like to sit near the front. Ostraka is drawn wide…do they roll the dice and go forward? Or drag back for luck.
