17 year Manas Dhamne registers career best win

Indian teenager Manas Dhamne produced a stunning comeback to register the biggest win of his young career at the ATP 75 Brașov Challenger in Romania on Monday.

The 17-year-old wildcard, ranked No. 742 in the world, upset Germany’s Christoph Negritu (ATP No. 282) in a dramatic first-round match, prevailing 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(3) after 2 hours and 38 minutes of high-intensity tennis.

Dhamne showed incredible grit and composure well beyond his years, saving three match points and fighting back from a 1-4 deficit in the final set to eventually force a tiebreak. There, the Indian held his nerve to seal a memorable victory, marking the best win of his career by opponent ranking and his first win over a top-300 player at the Challenger level.

This win is a significant milestone for the Italy-based youngster, who has been regarded as one of India’s most promising tennis prospects. Dhamne, who received a wildcard into the main draw, is also one of the youngest players on the Challenger Tour.

With this breakthrough victory, he advances to the second round, where he will face Frenchman Tom Paris (ATP No. 391).
